Cracks In Corner Of Mouth Yeast

DermTV Perleche Cracked Corners of Your Mouth DermTV Epi 156

Hello, I'm Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. Itching and burning cracks right at the cornersof the mouth is kind of common, it's uncomfortable, and it's calledperléche. Because of the cracks, most people think it's dry skin, but it's not dry skin. It's actually caused by a yeast infection, andit's the same yeast that most women carry in their body and the same yeastthat causes them uncomfortable

itching yeast infections. Because this iscaused by a yeast, it is aggravated by moisture, because yeast thrivein moist areas and closed areas, and this is a perfect setup becauseat the corners of the mouth, the way the lips come together, they causea closed area and, if there's any saliva there, that accounts for additionalmoisture. When people get this, invariably they do two things that makeit worse. The first is, because they consider it to be dry becausethey see a crack, they put a moisturizer on and, again, moisture makesthe yeast grow even more.

Secondly, because it's uncomfortable, andit burns, and it really feels peculiar, a lot of people take the tip oftheir tongue and they go like this. And they do it to test it, to feel it,to see, is the problem still there and, interestingly, people do it veryoften, a couple of times a minute, it's just a natural reflex. So how do we cure this problemé The firstthing is obviously stop licking the corners of your mouth. The second is,get an overthecounter anti yeast medicine, such as Lotrimin which hasclotrimazole as the active

ingredient which is good to fight yeast. Puta little bit on the corners of your mouth four to six times a day, just avery small amount, and then put a little Vaseline or Aquaphor on top so, ifyou do accidentally touch it with the tip of your tongue, the Aquaphoror Vaseline will keep the moisture away from the problem. Give it fourto seven days to cure the problem. If it hasn't done that by thatperiod of time, then you should see a dermatologist who will give you a prescriptionfor an antiyeast in an ointment vehicle which again will help protectagainst additional moisture

which aggravates the problem.

Occasionally, I'll pick out an email and I'll respond to it, but thereare many emails I just can't reply to anymore. My priority obviously goes to the patientswho see me in the , on Skype or Face

Time. They take up the share of my work. Itry to communicate with people really effectively through the YouTube channel.I've got a question here from a man in Missouri, America. This man's name is Johnathan Wainright.Johnathan's in his 60s and he wears dentures. Johnathan is asking me about mouth yeast infections. What can he doé Let's talk about mouth and throat yeast infections with this tutorial. I'llgive you some understanding on a little bit on what to do and some of the best possiblesolutions for it. I'm going to read some out of my book and I'll also talk along with thatas well. To reduce your chances of developing and maintaining a mouth or throat yeast infection,I highly recommend you follow these 10 rules.

You'll notice that quite a few dietary andlifestyle recommendations are based on the fact that oral and throat yeast infectionswill thrive in an environment that is warm, dark, moist and is fed on sugars and yeastyfoods. Sometimes also pharmaceutical drugs as we'll see can affect the mucosa.Knowing this, think about excellent oral hygiene, take away the food supply for the yeast, sotake the sugars away. Make it more hostile for the yeast to really thrive in the areaand keep the area clean. It's also pleasant for people around you if you haven't got likea stinky breath, but you've got like a sweet smelling breath. When you've got a good amountof lactic acid and beneficial bacteria in

your mouth, you'll have a breath that smellsquite okay. Sweet smelling breath. It won't be stinky. There's nothing worse than beingnear someone whose mouth smells really like a public toilet or something, and believeme, there are some stinky breaths out there. I know. I've had a few people over the years. This may be part of the reason why I like Skype because I can't really smell that muchon Skype. I'm not saying that all you guys have stinky breath out there. But if you havegot a smell, bad breath or what we call halitosis, a medical term, sometimes you won't even knowit yourself. Do not be afraid to ask people around you if your breath stinks because itcan be quite offensive and embarrassing for

you if you don't know.Number one, observe good oral hygiene. It makes good sense to observe very good oralhygiene since this is the entry to the digestive tract. I recommend that you rinse your mouthfirst and then brush your teeth. You can floss it, but gently. Be careful not to floss toohard because you can really damage the gums. I use a tea tree oil toothpaste, but you canalso use a bit of baking soda with water or a bit of sea salt or you can use a commercialtoothpaste, but try to get more of a natural one without too many chemicals in it. Thebest time to brush your tongue is when you brush your teeth in the morning. Bacteriaand yeast will multiply more on the tongue

overnight than during the day. You may beable to find a good herbal mouthwash at your local health food shop as well. Be carefulwith the commercial mouthwashes high in alcohol because they can destroy a lot of the beneficialbacteria in your mouth. Not a good idea. To avoid reinfecting yourself when brushingyour teeth, try disinfecting your toothbrush regularly by placing the toothbrush in a littlebit of hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes before and after tooth brushing. This is especiallyrelevant if you have gum disease, if you've got a lot of white coating on your tongue. It's important to keep your toothbrush clean. A couple of points I'd like to explain toyou also with teeth. Many people spend a lot
